Looking for uniquely beautiful design or artworks? Discover Atelier Avenue at Decor + Design 2024, Wednesday 17th – Friday 19th July at Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

A beautifully curated avenue of stands inside Australia’s most important interior design trade event, Atelier Avenue is a dedicated area for boutique Australian-based artists and designers across decorative objects, lighting, furniture, joineries, wall & surface art, soft furnishings, and textiles.

With 9,000+ design trade visitors set to descend on Melbourne Exhibition Centre to see the latest collections from heritage and emerging brands at Decor + Design, this is a great opportunity for independent makers and studios to meet face-to-face with one of the most extensive design audiences in the country.

Our ateliers in 2024 are of an exceptionally high quality. From photography to abstract expressionism, here are three Atelier Avenue to watch out for: Mark Forbes, Rowena Martinich and Dgianna Studio.

MARK FORBES PHOTOGRAPHY

Award-winning photographer Mark Forbes is best known for his contemplative and atmospheric documentary photography of street scenes, urban landscapes and structures. He employs film as his medium of choice for personal documentary work – using predominantly traditional medium format cameras.

Forbes’ approach to photography comes from an underlying fascination with people and their interaction with the environment. He has an uncanny knack of bringing personality to the ordinary. “I am an avid people watcher. When I’m out in the street, or even just day to day, I’m constantly seeing beautiful and interesting images and stories in my head.”

We love this photo from his series ‘Grace & Poise‘, made as part of an art commission for Bayside Public Library. Exploring the concept of dedication and striving for perfection, the images feature Aimee Hodgkinson, Demi-Soloist with the Victorian State Ballet. Explore Mark Forbes’ work further on his beautiful website and visit him at Stand AA8 along Atelier Avenue.

DGIANNA STUDIO

Dgianna (known mostly as Danni but sometimes Gianna) is pictured in the top image of this article. The Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist and designer focuses on repurposing textiles and carefully crafting expressive sculptural works, inspired by the endless paradoxes and complexities of human emotions.

DGianna’s signature draped aesthetic works beautifully across art, interiors and lighting design.

“For me, art and design encapsulate the essence of life itself, an eternal quest for beauty. It’s about delving into the profound depths of existence and finding solace in the aesthetics of the world around us.”

We love this handcrafted Nube Lamp, with a chiffon shade and a ceramic base. Explore DGianna’s varied work on her website and visit her at Stand AA13 of Atelier Avenue.

Rowena Martinich

We are delighted to welcome abstract expressionist artist Rowena Martinich to Atelier Avenue 2024. Creating vast, dynamic explorations of colour, Martinich has carved out a notable position in the art world, spanning the realms of public art, painting installations, permanent and temporary interventions, murals within streetscapes, awe inspiring architectural applications and powerful compositions on canvas.

Martinich’s artwork has been sought after by major clients such as Nike, Facebook, Mecca Cosmetica, Mirvac, Bombay Sapphire, The National Gallery of Victoria and Dulux as well Australia’s leading architects and interior designers to create bespoke immersive art experiences in both domestic and commercial environments.

Explore Rowena Martinich’s gorgeous artworks via her website and see selected works at Stand AA11 of Atelier Avenue.
