The Rug Collection is an established favourite on the Australian interior design scene, recently celebrating ten years in the business.
They’ve become known for a collection of quality handmade rugs with a contemporary feel. Injecting both style and warmth to modern Australian homes, their diverse collection includes styles that will meet any designer’s brief, from flatweaves to luxury handknots!
The team works closely with artisans in India, who bring designs to life using age-old techniques passed down from generations. No rug is exactly the same, carrying its own distinct characteristic and the intrinsic, singular beauty of the handmade. The Rug Collection also offers a Custom Made Rug service for unique residential and commercial projects.
However, 2018 marks the exciting launch of a new furniture line from the company. In the lead up to the launch at Decor + Design this week, we spoke to Simon Robinson from The Rug Collection to get an idea of the inspirations behind the collection and what visitors can expect to see at the show.
You’ve recently expanded into furniture and opened a new showroom on Armadale High Street in Melbourne. What inspired this major move?
Our journey of creation, exploration and expansion naturally evolved into furniture. The tallira brand was born to complement our rug collections and give clients a curated collection of furniture with a focus on style, comfort and liveability. We can’t wait to launch the collection at Decor + Design next week!
With an expansive showroom in Rosebery, Sydney to showcase our full collection of both rugs and new tallira furniture, we had outgrown our Melbourne Showroom in Hawthorn .
We have just opened the doors to our new and biggest Melbourne Showroom yet, located in the designer hub of High Street Armadale. Our much larger open-plan space has been newly refurbished to be a welcoming environment for designers to explore and experience our full collection of rugs and furniture.
Have you noticed any particular trends in purchasing this year? What pieces are proving popular in contrast to previous years?
Shades of neutrals, in particular greys, have been the rug colours of choice. Soft loop pile and rope weave textures continue to be popular as well as tonal patterns and textural flatweaves. In contrast, colourful pieces from our Romance and Handknot Collections are sourced more and more by designers for statement pieces to add the wow factor.
The theme of the AH&G International Seminar Series this year at Decor + Design is ‘Everyday Luxury’ – whether that is created through luxe materials, bespoke design or small, everyday touches. How does The Rug Collection approach the concept of luxury?
Luxury is in the details. From the quality of the materials used to create pieces through to the craftsmanship and uniqueness. Our collections are created with comfort, style and durability in mind so that they can be enjoyed daily.
Finally, what can visitors to the show expect to see from you this year at Decor + Design?
To complement our ever-expanding collection of handmade rugs, we’re excited to be launching our new brand of furniture tallira by The Rug Collection at Decor + Design.
We invite you to our stands G12 + H12 to experience the new collection.
