They say that necessity is the mother of invention. Well, the origin story of Mclocks is a perfect example. When two co-founders came across a clock they loved but couldn’t afford, they decided to create their own. What began as a personal project six years ago has since evolved into a global clock brand known for elegant, stylish timepieces. Form effortlessly meets function for standout pieces that bring a room to life, while gently encouraging punctuality!

We are delighted that Mclocks will be making their debut at Decor + Design 2025, 16 – 18 July at Melbourne Exhibition Centre. We sat down with the founder to explore the journey behind the brand, their commitment to quality and sustainability, and what to expect from their stand at the exhibition.

Mclocks began as a personal project. Can you tell us more about the journey?

Mclocks actually began in 2019, when I came across a clock in a store that I loved but couldn’t afford due to budget constraints. Instead of letting go, I decided to create a similar piece for my own home. When friends visited and admired the design, they began requesting their own clocks. And so, what started as a personal passion project – building clocks on the balcony at home – quickly evolved into something more, leading to our first small workshop.

As the journey progressed, Kübra Nur Önen’s creative and strategic input marked a major turning point for the brand. Her influence was instrumental in the move toward professionalisation, helping to shape not only the visual identity of Mclocks but also laying the groundwork for a more structured and scalable operation. Thanks to her vision, we were able to transform from a small craft studio into a fully equipped production facility.

Today, Mclocks operates from a 1000 m² factory with a dedicated team of 10, focused solely on clock production and R&D—combining precision engineering with timeless design.

How would you describe your design philosophy?

Each of our products has its own story. Our design philosophy is to bring soul into every space by creating clocks that are minimalist yet premium. We carefully select the finest materials and combine them with skilled craftsmanship to deliver a visual experience that enhances the aesthetic of any interior.

How do you balance the artistic elements of your clocks with their practical purpose?

Our clocks are designed to be functional yet striking. They can be easily hung on any type of wall, and their clean, elegant lines are easy on the eyes. While serving their purpose of telling time, they also stand out as the visual highlight of the space they’re in.

Your clocks feature materials like stainless steel and walnut. How do these choices enhance the durability of your products?

Material selection is a critical part of our process. Stainless steel offers high durability and maximum resistance to corrosion. We also use solid wood that has been dried using special methods and treated with unique surface techniques, making each piece one-of-a-kind. Beyond materials, our commitment to quality extends to packaging and customer service—both are designed to offer a premium experience.

The Serenity model is noted for its quiet operation. Can you discuss the technology behind your silent, high-torque quartz movements?

We use UTS German mechanisms, an engineering marvel from Germany! Their high torque allows us to drive long and heavy clock hands effortlessly. One of their standout features is their silent operation, which makes them perfect for serene spaces such as bedrooms or living rooms.

With a presence in numerous homes worldwide, do you tailor your designs to different markets? Are some models more popular in different countries?

Our models are generally well received across the world. While there are subtle preferences in different markets, the overall trend shows that our minimalist and modern designs appeal to a global audience. Many of our models are ordered consistently by customers from various countries.

How do Mclocks incorporate sustainability into products and practices?

Sustainability is one of our core company values. We are committed to using materials that are environmentally friendly and recyclable. For example, we’ve moved away from petroleum-based foam in our packaging and now use recycled cardboard. We also minimise waste in production, source responsibly, and are constantly exploring new ways to reduce our carbon footprint. It’s an ongoing effort, but one we believe is essential for future generations.

Can you give us a sneak peek into any new models or collections that will debut at Decor + Design 2025?

At Decor + Design 2025, we’ll be showcasing our most admired and in-demand models to introduce our unique aesthetic to the Australian market.

Our primary goal is to establish a strong presence across the continent. While this year’s focus is on our bestsellers, we’re also preparing to present new R&D-based models at upcoming shows in the near future.
