2024 is all about Evolution. Australia’s premier interiors trade event, Decor + Design, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year with the launch of a co-located Green Design Show at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from 17 – 19 July.

The inaugural Green Design Show will be a beautifully demarcated exhibition at the entrance to Decor + Design, which is expecting 9000+ design trade visitors over three days. It will celebrate truly sustainable furniture, products and materials from leading brands across the Australian green design space.

Partnering With Authorities on Sustainability in Design

It’s integral to us that the 2024 Green Design Show is curated with intention and transparency, avoiding the pervasive greenwashing across the design industry and the entire marketplace.

This important event is being curated purposefully and transparently by industry experts, to help drive a paradigm shift within the Australian design industry. Partners of the 2024 Green Design Show include the Green Building Council of Australia and Circular Design ThinkingThis follows on from Circular Design Thinking’s inspirational curation of the Green Design Hub at Decor + Design 2023.

Robust Guidelines and Documentation

Our Official 2024 Sustainability Advisor, Karie Soehardi of Circular Design Thinking, has drawn on her deep industry
knowledge to devise stringent but practical guidelines for 2024 Green Design Show exhibitors.

Before being confirmed as part of the event, Green Design Show exhibitors will be given an index rating for their performance across two categories. This is not an official rating system like the Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Stars. Rather it allows us to do due diligence, circumvent greenwashing and ensure that all Green Design Show exhibitors are legitimate.

It will also provide a meaningful illustration for visitors at the show as to where companies are on their sustainability journey.

Two Key Categories

There are two key Green Design Show exhibitor categories – Green Product or Circularity. Exhibitors can submit for one category or both. An application form must be completed with supporting documentation.

Sustainability is constantly evolving. The indexing will show areas in which exhibitors are strong, while also allowing for areas where they may wish to improve. Transparency is the goal, rather than perfection.

Participating Consensus

All exhibitors taking part in the Green Design Show will need to commit to strategies such as tracking transport and waste, communal storage and documentation of product lifecycle. There will also be requirements for the sustainable construction of stands.

Be Part of the Evolution

This is an important moment for both the exhibition and interior design industry in Australia.  If you’d like more information on exhibiting as part of the Green Design Show, please register your interest and our team will be in touch asap.
