The Australian country aesthetic is just as much a salve for the spirit in the city as in a pastoral landscape.
It’s about connecting with nature, with earthy neutrals, and with sudden, unexpected bursts of colour which bring a smile to your face. It is where elegance mixes effortlessly with comfort and pays homage to this great land.
Iconic Australian textiles house Warwick Fabrics released three new collections at the end of last year which make creating classic country charm an interior designer’s dream.
Herewith your guide to the fabric collections and how to use them…
Arlington
Arlington is a family of patterns that can bring (garden) spades of country charm to any interior. Heaven comes in these fabric rolls for those who love to mix and match collections.
Each pattern is designed to stand alone or complement the other fabrics in the collection to create inimitable rustic charm.
Timeless Perfection
The aesthetic of Arlington is centred around natural tones and timeless patterns which are perfect for the countryside.
Yarn-dyed jacquard weaves include a mid-scale check and stripe (Arlington and Brixham), a small-scale grid (Grasmere) and a classic pinstripe (Rathlin).
Finally, Cheshire brings balance to the collection; a textured plain which will tie the patterns together.
Arlington is heavy-wearing and machine washable – perfect for everything from lampshades to cushions, drapery, upholstery and roman blinds.
The colourways of this collection are centred in classic country tones. Pick from Duckegg and Chai, or go for bolder hues like Cornflower and Paprika. Neutrals such as Onyx and Dove will automatically refine any interior.
Hepburn
Florals are the beating heart of country classics. Australia is blessed with exquisite native flora; a cornucopia of beauty which has inspired the Hepburn collection.
Designed by the talented Warwick Fabrics design team in their Melbourne studio, Hepburn is rotary screen-printed on a gently textured crosshatched base-cloth with an organic slub finish.
The designs whimsically reflect on a different era and will bring serenity to any space. Think flowering gum trees and the gentle whisper of the Eucalyptus-scented air.
Hepburn features a stylised pattern on a natural blend base. Bring the inimitable sway of the Australian bush to cushions, lampshades, drapery or upholstery.
Hepburn is available in five colours. Choose from:
Eucalyptus – a natural base cloth with turquoise, fuchsia and magenta
Dusk – a classic neutral option with hints of khaki and slate blue
Desert – tones of orange, coral and chartreuse
Electric – cobalt, navy and ultramarine with pops of rust
Teal – saturated background with pops of pink and aqua
Penelope
Delve deeper into florals with the delightfully-named Penelope line from Warwick.
Anglophiles will adore this contemporary Australian take on English florals, with its large-scale design and trending tones. The watercolour design is influenced by British Colonial styling but the oversized print adds a modern feel.
A 100% cotton weave, Penelope is part of the Warwick Naturally brand.
There are three colourways available – Rosewater, Bluebell and Maple.
Rosewater – a classic white base with contrasting tones of citrus green, magenta and cornflower blue
Bluebell – a stone grey base with dewy blue, army greens and a pinch of violet
Maple – native greens, rusty pinks and pops of burgundy against a grey base
Get busy contrasting with these versatile prints, set against stunning neutral ranges for unforgettable interiors which breathe country charm.
Warwick Fabrics will be exhibiting at the next Decor + Design show at Melbourne Exhibition Centre, currently scheduled for 16 – 19 July 2020. Register for free trade entry to receive breaking updates on the date and program.
